The 911 was the archetypal choice for career driven, financially successful people in the 1980s. The famous, distinctive, and durable design of the 'impact bumper' 911 was introduced in 1974 and become a true icon until its replacement by the 964 in 1989. The Targa had a unique detachable roof section, and also the removal of the C pillar to incorporate a wrap around glass rear window.
